Building a Foundation

Season Report Posted: August 19, 2008 18:06

2008 the Auburn football team was looking to building a foundation that carry the team for the next 5 years. Coach Tylerd02 and his staff came in looking to build a foundation that this team can build on for future years. A college football team is built on the foundation that is laid during inseason and off season recruiting. Coach Tylerd02 knows this and is building his team with speed. Laying down the foundation with the number 2 rated recruiting class. This class is built on speed and should provide the foundation to build a national championship in the future. The top 3 players that coach is most looking forward to seeing on the field is 1) Douglas Burns MLB 2) Shane McCoy HB 3) Mike Bowling TE.

Douglas Burns comes in as the number one MLB in the country. He brings speed and will allow Tray Blackmon to move outside, a more natural postion to take advantage of his coverage abilities.

Shane McCoy will back up Mario Fannin and as the theme of the class says brings speed to the back field. His agility and ability to get in the open field should bring big play ability to an offense that has had trouble opening up.

Mike Bowling was recruited for his combination height and speed. Mike is a hybrid wide receiver tight end. His combination 6'6" 4.4 speed at tight end will make him vertually uncoverable. He does come in as a project, recruited as an athlete he will have to learn the position and is not expected to contribute this year.

Overall the class looks good, most are not expected to contribute coming in but Coach Tylerd02 believes all can make a difference. Only the fast survive in the SEC and this team getting faster and better.

Althought the Tigers only finished 7-6 there was some exciting football played including wins over #7 West Virginia and over rival Alabama. After starting 1-4 the Tigers rallied to finish 6-2 and showed promise for next season. Coach Tylerd02 still feels they are another 2 seasons away from breaking out, the foundation is set.
