Evolving Offensive Philosophy, Part I: Marcus Brown
Season Report Posted: December 16, 2013 18:51
With Florida State on a 4-game win streak, and bowl-eligible, much of their success is due to a rushing attack that has gashed opponents. FSU is averaging 320 yards on the ground during that stretch. First-year offensive coordinator Drew Avery brings with him a refinement to the spread-option run by head coach Ian McCully that emphasizes more power running. The running backs are often only able to make a short game but this in turn opens up lanes when quarterback Marcus Brown keeps the ball from himself. During the last four games he has run for 4 touchdowns and averages 118 yards on the ground. His passing efficiency has also increased, with him passing for 5 TDs and only 1 interception.
