Game Report Posted: October 05, 2008 18:23
The #5 VT Hokies were no match for the pumped up #10 Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes decided to bring out their running game and run all over the Hokies racking up 354 yards on the ground. 221 of those yards were from the Heisman Winner HB Nathan Guillroy who added all of Iowa's touchdowns. QB Ricky Stanzi was impressive as he added 132 yards on the ground.
With the win the Hawkeyes moved up in the polls to #5 in the Coaches Poll, #2 in the Media and #3 in the BCS. Coach Pelini was very happy with this year's squad and hopes to start being ranked in the polls next year in hopes of a National Championship run.
Pelini has turned down a 6-year extension on his contract with the Iowa Hawkeyes and also turned down two job offers from Michigan and #16 Auburn. His intentions are to win a national championship with Iowa and then move on to coach the college he graduated from, the University of Northern Iowa where he'll spend at least three plus years on trying to get the team even close in rankings.

The Hawkeyes took care of business as they beat the SMU Mustangs with ease. The defense helped in the victory as they recorded a NCAA record of 16 sacks in a game! Since the Coaches Polls disrespected Iowa, they took away any chances of making it into the National Championship game even though Iowa went through the season with an unblemished record.

Season Report Posted: October 02, 2008 20:12
Week 14 of the ESPN Magazine says it all. "WHERE'S THE LOVE? Just what does Iowa have to do to gain some respect in the polls?". The Coaches Poll has been very bad towards Iowa and knocking them out of a possible contention for a National Championship. The Media Poll has the Iowa Hawkeyes at #4 and the Coaches have the Hawks at #12 which averages them out in the BCS at #7. Had the Hawks Coaches Poll ranking been closer to the Media Poll, the Hawks could be at a #3 or #4 in the BCS with a chance to play in a National Championship game. The current Bowl prediction for Iowa is pitting them against #3 Arizona State in the Rose Bowl game.

They'll be playing in front of a crowd of 80,300+. If the Hawkeyes can pull off a win, they'll be far enough ahead of second place in the conference standings that if thew were to lose to Minnesota, Iowa can still claim the Big Ten title. The Hawkeyes will continue to put their consecutive streak records on the line as they visit Wisconsin. Records on the line are Iowa's win streak at 9 games. Bo Pelini's coaching win streak is currently at 23 games and they will look to improve their coach's Top 25 record to 10-0 which currently sits at 9-0. The game will also be NATIONALLY televised.

November 7, 2009
Game Report Posted: September 30, 2008 20:09
The game seemed like the Hawkeyes were playing a very high ranked team by the outcome of the score. Turnovers hurt the Hawkeyes as they barely won over Illinois 34-31. By the barely win, the Hawkeyes slipped in the polls. They are now at #19 in Coaches, #8 in Media and #14 in BCS. They did keep their two Heisman hopefuls in the running with LE Christian Ballard still at #1 and HB Nathan Guillroy at #3. The Hawkeyes also signed their final three recruits during the season.

Game Report Posted: September 21, 2008 23:04
Despite the "coaches poll" who must have slept through this game because of the minimal movement in the polls (3 spots), the #21 Iowa Hawkeyes went into Ohio Stadium just planning to keep the game close. Not only did they do that but they shutout the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio State's homefield! The Media rewarded the Iowa Hawkeyes by moving the Iowa Hawkeyes up to #9 in the polls. The coaches only moved the Hawkeyes up three spots to #18. Pelini said this when asked about the coaches poll. "I don't know if they all have their head up their asses but I know that we not only beat the #1 team in the nation but we shut them out." "I want to thank the Media for getting it right and I believe that they did by putting us up to #9 in the polls". Hopefully, the coaches will wake up from their obviously nap during this game and realize we're a team to be reckoned with."

The second mistake was a wide open receiver for Indiana getting a 77-yd. touchdown reception. #21 Iowa will look to fix these mistakes and practice a lot this week as they take on the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium which will be filled with 101,000+ fans. Iowa Hawkeyes come away with a victory and the Cy-Hawk Trophy. At times the Hawkeyes look good and at times they looked horrible. They allowed a punt return for a TD and threw five interceptions. On the other side, passing from both quarterbacks looked good and the defense did great creating four fumbles and recovering all four with one being ran back for a TD. The penalties though killed the Hawkeyes as they were assessed with SEVEN penalties for a total of 75 yards. The bad set of penalties came in the fourth quarter which the Hawkeyes were penalized for holding for two straight plays! The next game for the Hawkeyes will be the conference opener against Michigan State.

Game Report Posted: September 08, 2008 23:15
Coach Pelini in a post conference said, "Our offense sucked, our defense sucked, even our special teams sucked. I don't know how we won this game". The Hawkeyes stopped the first drive of the Huskies but upon the punt return, HB Nathan Guillroy fumbled the ball and gave the Huskies great field position in order to score a touchdown. The Hawkeyes defense was helped by Junior Left End Christian Ballard with a school and NCAA record breaking EIGHT sacks in the game. HB Nathan Guillroy also helped the special teams with a kick off returned for a touchdown. Pelini also stated that the Hawkeyes played a lot of the "clock game" meaning they ran the clock down as far as they could while having the ball and took their time selecting a defensive play until the other's team offense was ready. The team will be doing double duty during the week to be able to be ready to play a very tough Syracuse team.
