Dixon leads 2nd half surge as Michigan pounds rival Michigan State 45-13

October 30, 2021

Game Report Posted: April 04, 2017 04:49

ANN ARBOR -- After Ray Dixon threw an INT on the very first pass of the 2nd half, the capacity crowd at Michigan Stadium must have been counting on yet another missed opportunity to score an important win. It's a scene they've witnessed too many times in the past several years. Instead, the defense buckled down and held the Spartans to a FG, which kept the lead at 21-13. From there, Dixon would play perfect football, guiding the Wolverines to 24 unanswered points and a crucial win over their in-state rival.

Not only does the victory give the Wolverines 6 on the season - thus ensuring bowl eligibility - it also made a big statement on what was easily the most importing recruiting day in Coach Landrum's early tenure. With nearly all of the state's considerable talent in the stands - including 5 star HB Andrew McDaniel - the Wolverines dominance could potentially thrust them back to the forefront of the state's recruiting scene.

Richard, defense dominate in 31-3 Michigan win over Purdue

October 23, 2021

Game Report Posted: April 03, 2017 01:27

ANN ARBOR -- Lance Richard caught a school record 15 passes and the Wolverines defense rebounded from recent struggles as Michigan pounded conference foe Purdue 31-3.

Richard will get most of the hype, but it was the defense who set the tone. A safety at the end of the 1st quarter finally got them on the board and gave the Wolverines some momentum. That was followed in the 3rd quarter by a Brandon Hill fumble recovery in the end zone that made it 21-3 and effectively ended the game.

The win gets the Wolverines back on the winning track, improving them to 5-3 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

STATE COLLEGE -- The Wolverines run defense let them down for the second week in a row, this time allowing 256 yards on the ground. That ground dominance allowed the Nittany Lions to convert 9 of 14 third down chances and dominate the time of possession. Even still, Michigan kept it close thanks to excellent performances from QB Ray Dixon and WR Lance Richard, as well as two timely INT's. A 17 yard PSU TD pass midway through the 4th would prove to be the decisive blow, however, as Michigan was unable to mount another effective scoring drive.

ANN ARBOR -- Long viewed as one of the most under-developed talents in the Big Ten, QB Ray Dixon is finally emerging under the tutelage of head coach Jon Landrum. Dixon's talents were on full display against Illinois, as the senior threw for 294 yards and 2 TD's and ran for another 112 yards and 3 TD's.

Michigan's defense was just as impressive, holding the Illini to just 25 yards of total offense. Sophomore Joseph Green led the way with 3 sacks, with junior Lamar Green adding 2.
