Huskers win big in season opener

The game began with an interception on a poorly thrown pass over the middle. The ensuing drive consisted of 1 play action pass a several runs up the gut for a touchdown by Cody Glenn.
After taking a quick 7-0 lead after only 2 minutes of football, the huskers would never look back. After a sack by Jay Moore the Louisiana Tech, the huskers first opponent of the year, was forced to punt. After a couple of pass breakups, Jordon Kongdon kicked a 50 yard field goal off of the cross bar and through the uprights for an additional 3 points making the score 10-0.
The Bulldogs seemed to be having some success on their third drive in the first quarter, but big defensive end Barry Cryer got his big paw up in the air and knocked down a 3rd down pass to a wide open tight end to force a punt.
A quick delay of game penalty upsets the fans in Lincoln, who even give a few boos after a screen pass goes for a loss of 4 yards. But starting halfback Marlon Lucky would break two substancial runs to the outside to give the huskers a first down. The first quarter would come to an end with the huskers leading 10-0.
After being forced to punt, the husker defense got a lot of pressure on the quarterback, including a sack by safety Andrew Shanle. Once again forcing a 3&Out, the momentum was in full favor of the cornhuskers, but watching their offensive line did not make that evident. They ran 3 consecutive run plays and were forced to punt. But the punt proved worthwhile as on the next play Bryan Wilson picked off the Bulldog pass and ran it in for a touchdown. Kongdon's PAT made the score 17-0 cornhuskers.
On the next Louisiana Tech drive, more pressure on the quarterback forced a punt, followed by a completion to Dane Todd the fullback. A fumble by Marlon Lucky inside the Bulldog 30 ruined the drive for the huskers, and would have given Louisiana Tech a good chance to score before halftime, but another interception soon puts a nix on those hopes.
As if the Bulldogs couldn't feel any worse, the next play resulted in Cody Glenn waltzing into the endzone for his second touchdown run of the day. The half would then end 24-0.
The second half would open with a long touchdown run by Marlon Lucky to make the score 31-0. Just as the game seemed to be spiraling out of control, Louisiana Tech connected for a touchdown pass of 73 yards and quickly the score was back to 31-7.
After a field goal and an interception return by Zac Bowman, the score was 41-7, and the game was over so the Husker Coaches put in the second team.
Highlights from the second team include
a lot of short gains on the ground
another interception return for a td by Bryan Wilson
a 4th down reception by Todd Peterson
a long touchdown pass by the bulldogs :(
another interception by Bryan Wilson
and a field goal by Jordon Kongdon.

Final Score Huskers 51-Bulldogs 14
