2006 Week 3

On The Schedule: USC

All Quiet in Week 3

Weekly Report Posted: May 08, 2024 13:53

No news has been reported this week.

For the first time this season, the huskers go into a game without the expectation of blowing out the other team. Both Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit picked USC for that matter, and it looks as though the huskers would pick up their first loss of the season to the #3 rated trojans. The huskers however took the opening kickoff and proceeded to drive down the field that ended in a 1 yard touchdown run by fullback Dane Todd. USC didn't waste any time at all in marching right back down the field and scoring on a pitch play. After the huskers went 3 and out, it looked as though the Trojans (led by rapist Mark Sanchez) would score easily until 3 consecutive sacks by the Blackshirts front 7 left Sanchez in the dirt. A nine yard run by Marlon Lucky set up a play action pass perfectly for a wide open Todd Peterson... to not get the ball, but instead a fumble by QB Zac Taylor giving the Trojans the ball on the Cornhusker 35. The Trojans would attempt a field goal on the first play of the second quarter, but it would be blocked by Safety Andre Jones and returned by linebacker Steve Octavien for a Touchdown. The huskers were up 14-7 (to their surprise). An interception on the ensuing drive by Stewart Bradley started to give the huskers some hope of pulling off an upset. That hope, however, was quickly put down after Marlon Lucky fumbled and USC ran it back to midfield. A few plays later USC connected for a pass over the middle and the fans in the stands got to watch the Trojan wide out break tackles for about 15 seconds before walking into the endzone. THe huskers would then be forced to punt, but punter Dan Titchener got off a good one that would pin the Trojans on the 11 yard line. After a series of punting the Trojans finally connected for a touchdown pass making the score 21-14 with less than a minute left to play. Somehow or other the Trojans managed to score a second time in one minute, making the score 28-14 in their favor at halftime.
BULL F---IN S---!!!!!!!!!
They scored on a fumble return again, with 3 seconds left in the half. The huskers couldn't hold on to the ball. 35-14 Trojans.
After an exchange of possesions in the start of the second half, the Trojans would score again on the ground this time making the score 42-14.
Just when every single right minded person thought that momentum was in favor of the trojans, Zac Taylor takes an option run into the endzone. With the huskers now only down 21, they don't excatly have momentum, but at least now they care. The possible momentum shift proved worthless, as USC took the ball down the field with ease on their next drive making the score 49-21 Trojans.
As if this game hadn't seen enough big plays already, the next play resulted in Marlon Lucky walting into the endzone on a long TD run. I don't believe this....
Next kickoff is returned by USC for a touchdown, so the score is now 56-28, at the end of the 3rd quarter.
A touchdown run by Cody Glenn soon after the start of the 4th quarter makes this seem more like a videogame then football, but this game is so full of big plays and quick scores that the fans our on the edges of their seats, even though the margain is 21 points.
On the next drive USC took over 2 minutes to drive down and score!
