A pair of early season games show the defense in perhaps the best of Coach Nibble's career. Redshirt freshman DE Shane Wright makes his first start against Nebraska and makes tackles on three of the first five plays, including a sack and another for a loss, setting the tone for a dominating day by the Mustangs. Nebraska's score comes after a Mustangs fumble deep in their territory.
SMU busts out the rush-three, drop-8 sets against Oklahoma and again is smothering. The Mustangs hold the Sooners (4-2) to 102 total yards. Tailback David Miller comes back from a week off for injury and returns a punt 81 yards for a TD and adds a rushing score.
Three bluechippers commit: FS Terry Dawkins, CB Ricky Paul and DE David Carter.
