Those heady days of back around Thanksgiving, back when SMU was undefeated and ranked third, are long gone. On a cold, miserable, rainy New Year's Day, the Mustangs throw three picks, including one returned for a TD, get sacked ELEVEN times and get dominated in the second half for their third straight loss.

The defense, which was the backbone of the team all season, end Jason Johnson and strong safety Jason Greer on the All-American team. Johnson ties a school record with 17 sacks and wins the Lombardi Award.
