Temple Makes Upset Bid

Game Report Posted: August 04, 2008 06:32

Temple would strike first with a 48 yard TD run from Jared Williams; a beautifully run triple option. Temple would stretch their lead as a Jamal Schulters INT would lead to a methodical drive ending in a 3 yard run from Marcellous Grigsby. The 14-0 lead for Temple wouldn't last long, however, as UConn QB Tyler Lorenzen would hit Brad Kanuch for a 62 yard TD on the first play from scrimmage after the Temple score.

Adam DiMichelle would make a mistake on the next drive, throwing the ball directly to SS Robert Vaughn. Luckily, it wouldn't hurt the Owls, as kicker Tony Ciaravino would miss the 34 yard FG. DiMichelle would be intercepted again by Terry Baltimore, but time would run out on UConn and they would be unable to capitalize on that either, making the halftime score 14-7.

UConn would strike quickly again to start the 3rd quarter, as Tyler Lorenzen would hit DJ Hernandez for a 72 yard TD to tie the game at 14. Temple would get the play of the young season on their next drive, as Jason Harper would spin past a safety after catching the pitch, and break the tackle of Baltimore on his way to a 70 yard TD to give the Owls a 21-14 lead. The Huskies would answer with a long drive ending with another Lorenzen to Hernandez TD, and the score would again be tied, this time at 21 going into the 4th quarter.

Temple would drive again, but Jake Brownell would make like the aforementioned Ciaravino and miss a 34 yard FG to keep the game tied. The Huskies would take advantage, with Lorenzen getting his 4th TD pass of the day, this one back to Kanuch, putting UConn back up by a TD. Ciaravino would miss the extra point wide right, surprisingly, keeping the score 27-21. Temple would then get back to work, with Grigsby being the horse and getting the 3 yard TD, putting Temple up 28-27 with 1:10 left. UConn would put together a great drive, getting into field goal range and giving Ciaravino a chance to redeem himself with a 45 yard field goal. That kick would sail well left of the upright, and Temple would run out the clock to seal the 28-27 victory.

Temple Downs Rival Buffalo

September 13, 2008

Game Report Posted: August 08, 2008 18:05

Temple would kick off to Buffalo to start this game, and they would drive down to their own half of the field before questionably going for it on 4th and 1, and Drew Willy would hit James Starks out of th backfield, but Starks couldnt' stay inbounds, giving the ball back to Temple. Temple would go 3 and out, and Buffalo would get another decent drive going before being forced into 4th and 13. Instead of punting, Coach Turner Gill dialed up a fake punt (? Is that why Nebraska didn't hire him?) that was stopped after a 4 yard run.

The ensuing drive for the Owls would run into the second quarter, and would end with a 1 yard TD run for Marcellous Grigsby. Drew Willy would make a big mistake on his first pass of the next possesion, as he connected with Temple DT Andre Neblett, who had dropped into a QB Spy giving Neblett likely his first interception of his career. The next drive would again be capped off with a short Grigsby TD run, giving Temple a 14-0 lead. The Bulls would go 3 and out on their next drive, having lost all momentum and rhythm. Temple would get one last TD on the board before the half as Adam DiMichelle would hit Jared Williams for a 6 yard TD pass to make the halftime score 21-0.

Temple would get the ball to start the second half and really move the ball down the field methodically. But DiMichelle would throw and interception in the redzone to LB Justin Winters. Temple would get it back on the next possesion as SS George Coleman would pick off Willy.

The Temple drive after the INT would stall out on the 1, but Brownell would come in and make the 19 yard field goal, to make it 24-0 with 6:23 left. From there I supersimmed the rest of the game because I had to go to work. Each team would get another score and Temple would get the win 31-6.

Derrick Williams Defeats Temple

Game Report Posted: August 10, 2008 03:18

Temple would get the ball to start out the game, but after a couple first downs would be forced to punt. That would begin a long, long day for Temple, as Derrick Williams would field the punt and take it 69 yards to put Penn State up 7-0. Temple would get a quick answer though, as Jason Harper would take an option pitch and go 72 yards to tie the game at 7. The Penn State offense would control the ball on their first possesion, taking a lot of time and plays to get downfield, scoring on a 30 yard FG from Kevin Kelly.

After a Temple punt, the Nittany Lions would get another drive going. This one would end poorly for the Lions though, as backup LB Lamar McPherson would pick off a Daryll Clark pass. Temple would get nothing out of it, however, as they'd punt, and PSU would score on a 1 yard pass from Clark to TE Mickey Shuler. DiMichelle would throw an INT to Sean Lee on the next drive, but nothing would come of it and the halftime score would be a respectable 17-7 Penn State.

The second half would be less respectable for Temple. It started with a 9 yard Evan Royster TD. Then Clark to Dion Butler. Then Clark to Derrick Williams. Finally, the 3rd quarter would end with a TD pass from Clark to Jordan Norwood. Going into the 4th quarter, it would be 45-7, and it would stay that way until the game ended with a Penn State victory in Happy Valley.
