Gable makes a big statement

Los Angeles, CA (AP)
Many of you remembered that throughout this spring and summer, Stanford's coach Jim Harbaugh made a splash with his comments regarding USC's program. Harbaugh stated that coach Carroll would be leaving after this season and then he stated that USC is the best team ever. When Carroll was asked regarding those comments, Pete just chuckled and gave some hints that they might just lay them a whipping come Oct,5th.

It was over when

Pete obviously wanted to make a statement in this game to Jim Harbaugh. C.J. Gable one of USC's bunch of high school All-American backs made a big statement for himself to get more touches this past Saturday. Gable scored on 3 consecutive possession for USC in the 1st QTR recording runs of 58, 46, and 60 yds for touchdowns. Gable stated to us, "there were just big holes that opened up for me. Everything seemed to slow down for me during the game and I didn't think any of those guys could tackle me." Gable racked up 117 yds after the 1st hit and USC took a quick and commanding 45-0 lead by halftime.

Game balls

Game ball has to go to the O-Line as they opened up holes after holes for USC's talented running backs. The running game racked up 386 yds on 33 carries and scored 7 TDs. C.J. Gable carried the ball 15 times for 259 yds and 4 TDs. Gable avg 17.2 yds per carry, 117 yds after 1st hit and 4 runs over 40 yds. Keith Rivers dominated on defense pressuring their Stanford's QB all day and produced a school record 4 sacks. Rivers also had 14 Tkls, 5 TFL and 1 int.

Key stat

Booty was himself completing 17 of 24 passes, 274 yds and 4 TDs. His Heisman campaign is now picking up steam after tossing 4 TD passes in back to back weeks.

Noteworthy

USC's defense played in a fashion that we haven't seem in a long time. This group reminds me of the group that won the second national title at USC. Most of Stanford's production came in garbage time. Rey Maualuga had 11 tkls, 3 TFL with 2 ints. Patrick Turner finally gets in to the endzone again by catching 2 TD passes.

Next up

Arizona just came off a easy victory over a decent Oregon St team last week. Arizona's defense seems to be playing very well and they have a much improved record from last year at this point with 4 wins and 2 losses.
