Carroll's Trojans back on top

Los Angeles, (AP)

The Trojans did not give up a Special team TD for the 1st time this season in a 63-21 Victory over the hated Oregon Ducks. If you watched the past couple of games against the Beavers and Buckeyes you saw some horrible special team play from the Trojans. The Trojans gave up a total of 5 special team TD in two games and Carroll attributed that to the fact that he did not put his top speed guys on the special team, which resulted in bad kick coverages. Carroll also took the blame for leaving Clay Matthews on the special team while he's hurt. "Clay is a tough player he is not gonna tell you that he is hurt, so it's kind of my fault for leaving him in there. We needed more speed on the punt and kick coverage team. I gave freshmen Uona Kavienga a shot on special team and he did a tremendous job for us."

Trojans dominated the 1st half by scoring 42 unanswered points on the Ducks. Mark Sanchez was on fire, throwing 3 consecutive TD passes on 3 possession highlighted by a 26 yds toss to Joe McKnight. Travon Patterson also got into the endzone for the 1st time this season on a 4 yds catch. The Ducks caught a break with no time on the play clock when Oregon WR T. Scott picked up a fumble (caused by Maualuga)and took it 69 yds for their 1st TD.

The Ducks came out in the 2nd half fired up and QB C. Kempt threw a 10 yds strike to WR J. Williams. Williams then broke 2 tackles and took it up the field for a 56 yds TD. McKnight put a stop to their momentum quickly when he scored on back to back possessions capped by his spectacular 82 yds punt return for a TD. The Trojans dominated this game and the game was never in doubt. This also gave some young Trojans valuable playing time and experience. Brice Butler saw the field for the 1st time this year and caught 2 passes for 17 yds. Mitch Mustain also completed 8 of 14 passes for 71 yds with 1 int.

Next Game

Trojans stays home to face the Arizona ST Sun Devils. Sun Devils are considered one of more talented teams in the Pac-10 this should be a good match-up.

Recruiting Notes

USC received early commitment from ESPN nationally ranked #2 (5 star) DE Chris Morris from Camarillo CA. Morris last year (Jr year) had 22 sacks and 87 tackles and is consider the best pass rushing DE in the nation. Morris has tremendous speed off the edge.

ESPN top 150 #3 (5 star) DE Mike Pino committed to SC last week. Pino is a monster of a DE that is able to stop the run and get to the QB. Mike also have a lean frame (6-7 250 IBS) that is going to gain more muscle mass. USC is looking forward to these two DEs to cause havic as Kyle Moore and Gerald Washington graduate this year.
