Trojans shocked in their own back yard

Los Angeles, (AP)

On a rainey day in a normally sunny Southern California, the Trojans suffers their biggest lost since the Pete Carroll area began. Perhaps it was a sign as the rain started to hit the field early this morning in mist of a summer day. Trojans lost their composure, their swagger, and their guts on this day.

The game began as expected in a back and forth battle throughout the first QTR and a half, until things broke lose late in the 2nd QTR. Trojans had a commanding 14 to 7 lead half way through the 2nd QTR. Mark Sanchez threw a TD pass, landing in the hands of Ronald Johnson. During the following possession Ohio State QB Todd Boeckman threw an interception to Omari Crittenden, and the Trojans capitalized on the opportunity with a Sanchez to Patrick Turner pass to go up 14-7. On the next drive the Trojans gave the ball back to Buckeyes and allowed them to score 14 unanswered point before the 2nd half ended leaving the score at 21 to 14 at halftime.

3rd QTR began with a bang as Ray Small came out with a dazzling 84 YDS kickoff return for a TD. Small came back 2 mins later and to return a 62 YDS punt to the promise land and put the game out of reach. Special team was the name of the game on this day as it truly hurt the Trojans and made all the difference in making the game competitive. Trojans also dropped 6 passes threw by Sanchez with two landing in the hands of Buckeye defenders. Sanchez told reporters, "I was pressing alot towards the end of the game and took some chances that I should not have took. It is what it is and we have the rest of the season ahead of us, we'll take it game by game.

Pete Carroll, "hey guys lets not take this out of proportion. We'll take it week by week like we've done here for years now and we will bounce back, I promise you that. If it may be, I look forward to seeing Ohio State again some time in the near future." Take if for what it's worth, but I think Carroll eyeing perhaps a National Championship match up against the Buckeyes. Of course Pete will never come out and just say it.
