HUSKIES COME UP SHORT

LOCKER AND WILLIAMS COMBO NOT ENOUGH TO SALVAGE A WIN

The heroics of Jake Locker and Corey Williams weren't enough to overcome the mistakes of the Huskies as they had four turnovers to none for UCLA and hence lost the game.

Locker made a mistake of his own in the fourth quarter which likely lost the Huskies the game. A receiver was wide open and he made the old mistake of pushing the wrong button. As a result, "Locker" had his wife come in the next day and go to practice mode with him. In the five-wide set, the wife called out a letter of a receiver randomly for about an hour to help "Locker" get used to his focking Xbox controller... which by the way still hurts his hands goddamnit. How is it so hard to make an ergonomically correct controller? This thing is like braces for my hands, I swear it's more painful every time I use it.

UCLA was difficult to stop on the day. They scored a 1-yard touchdown to cap off an 11-play drive to open the game. Locker and company countered with a touchdown of their own, as Corey Williams went up high to snatch a floating pass near the front of the end zone and would have made any dancer proud with his pirouette to get his foot down in bounds.

For the first three quarters UCLA seemed to score every time they got the ball. UW defenders didn't bat down a single pass all game... a first in just about any videogame I can remeber. Not only was Olsen solid, but the Husky defenders were pure, utter crap. Worse than the Gigli script. Worse than Shaquille O'Neal's acting. Worse than just about anything, really.

"As a former defensive backs coach and in general a defensive-minded football coach, this was obviously a tough one to see," said Jim Mora after the game. "Of course, we did get our act together against the passing game and we were able to get a few stops thanks to some nice blitzing pressure later in the game. Our guys just have to be more aware out there and try and get their hands on the football."

Two fumbles and a couple of Locker interceptions were enough to keep the Huskies on the losing end of things but Locker and wide receiver Corey Williams were still a force to be reckoned with. After tying the game at 7-7 UCLA took the lead back with one of two Olsen keepers for touchdowns, but Locker and Williams came back with another beautiful touchdown pass to tie the game again. In the third quarter Williams caught another touchdown, this time on a hook pattern in which the defender fell down.

"We had a good thing going there," said Locker. "It's too bad I threw the two interceptions. We had a chance to come away with the upset and I was too erratic. That's not a great feeling but this one is in the books now. We've gotta move on and I have to just do the best I can."
