Wyoming 31, Colorado 27

Fresh off their miraculous upset over Texas, the Cowboys walked in to the fearsome Folsom Field confident that they once again could win as the underdogs.

Wyoming would ride that confidence to a quick 14-0 lead after two Carta-Samuels touchdown passes. But Colorado was not going to go quietly and responded with a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cody Hawkins to receiver Josh Smith to cut the lead in half. That would be the last score of the first quarter.

The Cowboys once again score twice unanswered on a ACS pass and Jake Scott field goal to extend the lead to 24-7. With around :30 left in the half it appeared Wyoming would go into half up by 17, but the Buffaloes had a few tricks up their sleeves. Hawkins found Simas for a diving catch in the endzone to make it 24-14, then on the very first Wyoming play ACS forced a pass into coverage and was picked off for a touchdown. The kicker missed the extra point, however, and Wyoming suddenly had their 17 point lead cut down to four, 24-20.

With around two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Colorado was on their last chance as the lead remained 24-20. But somehow Cody Hawkins continued his great down and threw a 71-yard strike to Josh Smith to take the lead 27-24.

Now Carta-Samuels was once again thrust into pressure, this time in a hostile road enviroment. He would falter once more, throwing his second interception of the game, the defender was tackled quickly this time however.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, they still had all three timeouts and Scott was having a terrible day. The Buffalo running back was stuffed on three straight plays and Wyoming still had a chance with 0:57 left and no timeouts, but only needed a field goal.

Carta-Samuels regained his composure and led the high-powered no-huddle Cowboy offense down the field. Where Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen faced an interesting decision: go for the win with only six seconds left and risk running out the clock or kick the field goal and head to overtime? Christensen chose the former and it turned out to be the right one as Carta-Samuels found Leonard wide open for the touchdown with 0:03 left, making it 31-27 in favor of the Cowboys.

Colorado still had one chance left on the kickoff, however. The returner, Josh Smith, found a lane and took off. No one was near the speedy Smith as it appeared as if Wyoming would suffer the heartbreaking loss. But true freshman FS Luke Ruff appeared out of nowhere and made the game-saving tackle at the Wyoming 6-yard line, preserving the 31-24 win.
