Wyoming 59, Weber State 17

Weber State kept it close at first, keeping the lead within seven on multiple occasions. In the Second half, however, they could not contain Austyn Carta-Samuels and the Wyoming offense, giving up 21 points in the third quarter alone.

Carta-Samuels was named player of the game, going 16 of 28 with 401 yards and six touchdowns.

It was obvious from the get-go that something was wrong with Texas. It could have been the record 35,000 Wyoming faithful, it could have been the mountain air, or it could be that Texas just simply overlooked the underdog Cowboys.

Whatever it was, it bit Texas in the butt quickly as Wyoming took advantage of the lethargic Longhorn offense and defense and jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Carta-Samuels threw touchdowns and added another on the ground.

Texas figured out something in the second quarter, however, scoring 10 unanswered, cutting the lead to 21-10. Carta-Samuels, not willing to be outdone by his Longhorn counterpart, ran in a 9-yard touchdown with 16 ticks left on the clock, making it 28-10 at halftime.

Mack Brown must have said something to the Longhorns as they came out firing in the third quarter, scoring on two short-yardage runs to cut the lead to 28-24 at the start of the 4th quarter.

Texas was finished scoring yet, as Vondrell McGee added yet another touchdown, their 21st unanswered point, to give Texas the lead, 31-28. Carta-Samuels was not finished putting on his show though, as he threw a 31-yard strike to Greg Bolling to give the surprise Cowboys a 35-31 lead with 4:27 left.

Texas stalled on their next possession, giving the ball right back to the Cowboys. They were stalled as well, but within field goal territory. But Jake Scott kicked it a bit to far to the right, keeping the score right at 35-31.

Colt McCoy and the Longhorns would not let that opportunity go to waste, as McCoy threw his 3rd touchdown to James Kirkendoll, taking the lead 38-35 with only 2:42 left.

On the ensuing kickoff, breakout star Donate Morgan broke a few tackles and took it to the house. However, senior WR Greg Bolling got called for a block in the back call right as Morgan crossed the goal-line, leaving the Cowboys back at the Texas 39-yard line, still great field position.

Carta-Samuels would continue his heroics, scrambling for an 11-yard touchdown run with only 1:18 left on the clock, giving Wyoming the 42-38 lead. But Texas now had some momentum and the missed field goal looked bigger than ever.

On the kickoff, Jordan Shipley made a unShipley-like play and fumbled the ball, giving Wyoming the ball in around the Texas 35-yard line. The Texas defense would step up and stuff the Cowboys on three straight plays, leaving Scott to boot it in from 44 yards, making it a seven point game, 45-38.

Texas would now get the ball with :54 left, but McCoy was not going to be denied, throwing his 4th touchdown of the game to tie it up with :24 left on the clock. But Wyoming still had all three timeouts...

Carta-Samuels once again drove the Cowboys down the field, getting to the Texas 37-yard line with two seconds left. Would he make it? Will Wyoming win? Read in a few minutes to find out (I have to leave for a little bit)...

Where we last left off, Wyoming was about to kick the possible game-winning field goal with :02 seconds left.

Jake Scott lined up. The snap was perfect. The hold was perfect. The blocking was perfect. The kick... not so much. It hooked to the right and the game would head to overtime.

Texas wins the toss and elects to send their defense out first. Two plays later, Carta-Samuels is hurt. The good news is he'll only miss one or two plays. The bad news is that the next play is 3rd and long. So back-up quarterback Karsten Sween heads out. Texas sends eight players on a blitz leaving Donate Morgan wide open for an easy touchdown. 52-45 Cowboys.

It's now Texas' turn and they show no signs of slowing, capping it off with a 4-yard jet sweep to Malcolm Williams to send the game to double overtime.

Texas must start yet again. The defense holds tall and forces three straight losses. It's up to Longhorn kicker Hunter Lawrence to possibly save the game. The snap is perfect. The hold is perfect. The blocking is perfect. The kick... not so much. He too hooks it to the right and Wyoming has the ball with a chance to win the game.

Wyoming coach Dave Christensen showed no signs of settling for a field goal. Carta-Samuels would return to the game and continue his masterpiece. The Wyoming offense was unstoppable. The Cowboys eventually would hand it off to running back Darius Terry who would run it in for the game winning touchdown from one yard out. Giving the Cowboys their biggest upset in history.

Fresh off their miraculous upset over Texas, the Cowboys walked in to the fearsome Folsom Field confident that they once again could win as the underdogs.

Wyoming would ride that confidence to a quick 14-0 lead after two Carta-Samuels touchdown passes. But Colorado was not going to go quietly and responded with a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cody Hawkins to receiver Josh Smith to cut the lead in half. That would be the last score of the first quarter.

The Cowboys once again score twice unanswered on a ACS pass and Jake Scott field goal to extend the lead to 24-7. With around :30 left in the half it appeared Wyoming would go into half up by 17, but the Buffaloes had a few tricks up their sleeves. Hawkins found Simas for a diving catch in the endzone to make it 24-14, then on the very first Wyoming play ACS forced a pass into coverage and was picked off for a touchdown. The kicker missed the extra point, however, and Wyoming suddenly had their 17 point lead cut down to four, 24-20.

With around two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Colorado was on their last chance as the lead remained 24-20. But somehow Cody Hawkins continued his great down and threw a 71-yard strike to Josh Smith to take the lead 27-24.

Now Carta-Samuels was once again thrust into pressure, this time in a hostile road enviroment. He would falter once more, throwing his second interception of the game, the defender was tackled quickly this time however.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, they still had all three timeouts and Scott was having a terrible day. The Buffalo running back was stuffed on three straight plays and Wyoming still had a chance with 0:57 left and no timeouts, but only needed a field goal.

Carta-Samuels regained his composure and led the high-powered no-huddle Cowboy offense down the field. Where Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen faced an interesting decision: go for the win with only six seconds left and risk running out the clock or kick the field goal and head to overtime? Christensen chose the former and it turned out to be the right one as Carta-Samuels found Leonard wide open for the touchdown with 0:03 left, making it 31-27 in favor of the Cowboys.

Colorado still had one chance left on the kickoff, however. The returner, Josh Smith, found a lane and took off. No one was near the speedy Smith as it appeared as if Wyoming would suffer the heartbreaking loss. But true freshman FS Luke Ruff appeared out of nowhere and made the game-saving tackle at the Wyoming 6-yard line, preserving the 31-24 win.

Wyoming came into the game as the the favorites in their first meaningful game this year. All they had to do was not lose. And not do that they did.

On the first kickoff of the game, Wyoming receiver Greg Bolling broke a few tackles and took it to the house, making it 7-0 after just 11 seconds.

It was all downhill from there for the Rebels, as the Cowboys scored the next 42 points and went into halftime up 49-0.

Wyoming played conservative the rest of the way and won 55-14, winning their first conference game of the year.

It was a dark and rainy night in Ft. Lauderdale as the Cowboys marched on to the field, looking for there 5th straight win of the season. But the Owls, lead by senior QB Rusty Smith, were ready for a wild game.

The first quarter was uneventful, though high scoring, as both teams scored two touchdowns to make the score 14-14.

In the second quarter it appeared as if Wyoming was going to pull away and make it a blowout, scoring 21 points unanswered and FAU star player Rusty Smith injured his non-throwing shoulder and would miss the rest of the game. But on a punt as time expired in the first half, Wyoming return man Donate Morgan tried to do a little to much, fumbling the ball. The ball was then picked up by a FAU defender and he took it to the house. The score was 35-21 Wyoming, but FAU had all the momentum in the world.

On the first drive of the third quarter, Wyoming looked as if they killed the momentum, finishing off the drive with a short yardage touchdown run to once again take the lead by 21 points. FAU was not ready to give up, however, as halfback David Muniz scored twice on the ground, making the score 42-35 heading into the final quarter.

FAU would strike first in the fourth quarter, kicking a 41-yard field goal to make the score 42-38. On the ensuing Wyoming possession, Carta-Samuels threw his first pick of the game, giving FAU the ball with a chance to take the lead.

The Owls took advantage of the opportunity, scoring on a 19-yard strike from their backup quarterback. Their kicker missed the extra point, however, and now had a two point lead as opposed to a three point lead.

Wyoming would not give up, scoring on a 56-yard post route from Carta-Samuels to Travis Burkhalter. They punched it in on the 2-point conversion attempt, making the score 50-44.

Florida Atlantic was not willing to be outdone by the fabulous freshman. They drove down the field, running in in for the touchdown with only 0:46 left on the clock.

For the third time in four games, Wyoming would have to stage a comeback attempt. Carta-Samuels did not have to step on the field, as Greg Bolling took the kickoff 90 yards for the game winning touchdown.

FAU's hail mary attempt was incomplete and Wyoming could celebrate once again as they won the wild 58-51 game.
