Bulldogs destroy Vanderbilt 62-7

Vanderbilt is supposed to be a free win in the SEC. And although they had a couple of decent years in recent seasons, it appears that they are back to the bottom of the barrel. Georgia swamped the Tenneseeans 62-7 in a game that wasn't close from the outset.

The Bulldogs weren't hot offensively right from the get go, and instead worked their way into the action. Outside linebacker Rennie Curran provided the early fireworks by intercepting a pass and returning it 24 yards for a 7-0 lead.

Georgia would force a punt and score again before the end of the first quarter on a 1-yard plunge by Caleb King.

After an interception by Vanderbilt, quarterback Joe Cox stepped up into the pocket and found wide receiver Tony Wilson in the end zone for a 24-yard score. Vanderbilt replied on a 6-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-7, but they were never able to parlay that into a game.

The killer for Vanderbilt was that after Georgia kicked a field goal to go up 24-7, Prince Miller intercepted Vandy and returned it 48-yards to give Georgia an insurmountable halftime lead.

"We played well today," said Richt. "We won't enjoy this one too long, though."

Georgia has a bye week, then hosts Florida in an annual rivalry game the following week.
