Georgia offense overcomes mistakes to down Gators

JACKSONVILLE, Fl. --- Joe Cox threw for 471 yards and Caleb King added 163 yards on the ground. All told, Georgia put up 632 yards of offense for 33 first downs, which allowed them to overcome 5 turnovers and outlast the Florida Gators.

The story of the game was Blair Walsh nailing a 46-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining in the game to give the Bulldogs a 29-28 victory.

"It was a frustrating performance in some ways," said Coach Mark Richt. "Here we are moving the ball up the field all day, but then made stupid decisions in the red zone. To see Blair boot that one through it just felt like a huge weight was lifted off my chest."

The game winner wasn't a given, as Walsh had missed a field goal earlier in the game.

Walsh started off the scoring with a 26-yard field goal. The Gators scored twice in the second quarter, including a 10-yard run by Jeffrey Demps and a 31-yard interception return, to take a 14-3 lead.

Georgia came storming back before the end of the half as Cox hit Aron White on a 24-yard touchdown pass, and after being stopped on the goal line, Walsh hit a short field goal. It was 14-13 at the half.

The Gators once again put some distance between themselves and the Bulldogs as Tebow found Nelson from 25 yards out, and Demps broke away for a 77-yard run.

Yet the Bulldogs refused to give up. King (42 carries) and cox (52 attempts) led an offense that got off 99 plays, compared to just 49 for the Gators. This helped the Bulldogs wear the Gators down.

King scored on a 3-yard run near the end of the third quarter. It was a couple possessions and two turnovers by the Dogs before they got another chance as Cox threw a 6-yard strike to King that made it 28-26 with 3:36 to go. The Bulldogs failed on the two-point conversion attempt, but stopped the Gators on the ensuing possession.
