Hoosiers Blow 13 Point Lead; Lose to WMU
BLOOMINGTON--The Indiana Hoosiers blew a 13 point 4th quarter lead and lost to the Western Michigan Broncos 25-22 in OT. Leading 22-9 with under 4:30 to play in regulation the Hoosiers surrender 2 TD passes by Ryan Cubit, the last one coming with 0:52 left in the 4th quarter. Cubit threw for 356 yards, 170 to Joe Chapple who caught 10 passes.
Indiana looked to be well on their way to winning the opener for both teams but a costly offsides penalty on 4th down was damaging. LE Brian Faires was called for the infraction with 2:12 left in the game while WMU was punting on 4th and 3. The Broncos were able to keep the drive alive and Cubit found redshirt freshman Chris Maragos for the 7 yard score with 0:52 left in regulation.
In OT Blake Powers threw his 4th interception of the game on 3rd and goal from the 6. The Broncos Mark Bonds ripped off 19 yards over the left side on WMU's first play from scrimmage and Nate Meyer drilled the game-winning 23 yard field goal on the next play.
