NSU routs Rams to kick off 100th Season
Tony Schifano silenced critics Saturday night as Nebraska State downed old nemesis, Colorado State, 37-7.
Schifano, in his first start, completed his first eight passes of the contest leading NSU to a quick 14-0 lead. The Junior finished his first game with two touchdown passes but left early in the second quarter after being shaken up by a CSU sack. Schifano wouldn't return until the first play of halftime where he lead the Prairie Dogs to a field goal to push its lead to 27-7. Schifano ended the night 18-25 215 yards with two touchdowns and a single interception.
Senior running back Scott Franklin added the first score of the evening on a one-yard dive in the game's opening minutes. Colorado State fumbled on their first play of the game. The fumble was caused by Irvin and Miller pounced on the ball setting up Franklin's first touchdown of the season.
Geoff Garcia kicked off his season with a 49-yard interception return for the game's final score. Garcia shined as the senior tallied five tackles, one forced fumble, which he recovered, and his scoring interception.
