The Nebraska State defense was relentless for most of the game as NSU defeated Cal for the first time in its history, 38-16 in the Holiday.

NSU recorded nine sacks in the game and limited Cal to 210 total yards and just 3-15 on 3rd down. Cal's Clark was forced to punt 10 times in the game, netting 347 yards and a long of 51. Cal did manage to sack NSU QB Bean in the end zone for a safety late in the fourth, which led to Cal's final touchdown. The onside kick failed and NSU ran out the clock.

Davis, in his final game for NSU, rushed for 161 yards on 26 carries. Davis scored his lone touchdown in the fourth quarter, giving him 35 touchdowns, believed to be the second most in school history behind Todd's 44 in Season 54.

In his career, Davis ran the ball 565 for 4,311 yards and 56 touchdowns. He added 91 receptions for 720 yards and another six scores.

Also ending his NSU career was kicker Brown. Brown won the Groza Award his sophomore and junior seasons. He finished 3rd as a freshman and second this past season. Brown went 14-17 with a long of 60 yards. In his career, Brown booted 63-75 fgs and a perfect 300-300 (both records for makes and attempts) xp percentage. He went 3 of 9 from 50+ and had five blocked. He also has the second longest field goal in NSU history at 60 against Texas, behind Kelly's 63-yarder way back in Season 13.
