Aztecs Back on Track, Roll Over Spartans

Not Televised.

Wow! The San Jose State defense seemed to be the medicine the doctor ordered. Kevin O'Connell looked like Peyton Manning, dissecting the Spartan defense to the tune of 461 yards and 5 touchdowns. Balance was the name of the game (at least for the passing game) for the Aztec receivers, with Ramal Porter and Chaz Schilens each collecting 6 catches, 140+ yards (Porter; 146, Schilens; 148), and a touchdown. One sidenote: coach RJ Dean didn't call a single running play in the first half.

Defensively, the unit played a lot better than they did in their previous three games. The performance left a little to be desired, as 29 points isn't exactly shutdown defending, but it will have to do for now. The two sophomore OLBs, Andrew Schantz and Russell "Rusty" Allen led the team in tackles, combing for 17 of them. Allen also chipped in with a sack. Sill, the team allowed points in each corner and this unit remains the weak spot of the team.

Offensive POW: Kevin O'Connell, QB- 26/37, 461 yards, 5 TD, 1 INT
Defensive POW: Russell Allen, OLB- 8 tackles, 1 sack

Injury Report: Defensive captain and starting CB Donny Baker was suspended for 5 games for violating unspecified academic rules.... Nick Osborn briefly left the game in the second quarter on an extra point block attempt (chest)....
