Putrid. One word can describe the opening gun-to-final whistle offensive performance from San Diego State. An offense built on passing rallied up on 14 completions and 240 yards despite throwing for nearly all of the second half. Kevin O'Connell threw 2 first quarter interceptions after engineering an impressive opening touchdown drive. Schilens failed to break the 40-yard barrier and the teams leading receiver ended up being starting HB Lydell Hamilton, who tallied 80 yards (67 of which coming on a screen in the 3rd). Hamilton ended up being the only offensive Aztec to have a good game, tallying up 140 all-purpose yards and 2 scores.

A few decent individual performances translated into an utterly horrific defensive performance from the San Diego State defense. Freshman phenom P.J. Hill ran up, over, and around the SD St. defense on his way to 179 yards and two scores. The rest of the team combined to rush for 79 more yards as the Aztecs could not stop the bleeding.

Offensive POW: Lydell Hamilton, HB- 13 car, 60 yards, 2 TD's, 140 all-purpose yards
Defensive POW: On a week like this? Yeah, right.
