Too Much, Too Litte Time for Bulldogs

Tennessee had a key 29 point run in the 2nd quarter to help their chances against this pesky Mississippi State team. Justin Smith was fighting hard all day with another 39 carry, 212 yard day.

Late in the fourth quarter, Tennessee was nursing a 38-14 lead. Then the dam almost broke for good. The Bulldogs had a 16 point rally to get the game to 38-30 game. The Vols had the ball with under a minute remaining and Coach Batten decided to kick a 53 yard field goal. Since Barr had made the game winning 57 yarder against UGA this should be a simple kick. Alas, it wasn't as the ball went ever so slightly to the right.

This gave Mississippi State some momentum with around 15 seconds left. On the first play of the drive they hit a Hail Mary that was just barely overthrown. The second down play consisted of another bomb that was thrown out-of-bounds. Then game the third down play, the MSU coach called another pass play that confused the secondary really bad. Luckily and somehow, Fred Childs managed to tackle the receiver at the 17 yard line so he would not be able to score, nor take it in for the score.

"We were lucky to win this game. Our defense was gassed in the fourth quarter, but we had lost Curt Edwards for the rest of the game due to an injury. However it is a great time to be a Vol! We have won 6 games which ties the 2021 mark. Now I hope we get some revenge in Lexington against Kentucky." Said a overjoyed Coach Batten.
