Dawgs take out frustrations on Oregon State

A week after getting embarrassed by the USC Trojans in what has become an annual beatdown, the Huskies were ready to punish some Beaver tail in order to make themselves feel better.

With freshman running back Jason Howard slowed by recurring back spasms, senior J.R. Hasty had the chance to carry the load himself. And boy, did he. Hasty carried 36 times for 222 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown jaunt that put the Huskies on top 24-7 early in the third quarter.

The Huskies owed their halftime lead to kicker Ryan Perkins, who hit three field goals of 40 yards or longer in the first half. Those kicks, along with a 21-yard touchdown pass froim Jake Locker to Quintin Daniels, accounted for each of Washington's 16 first-half points.

Oregon State scored a touchdown on their only fruitful drive of the first half to pull to within 16-7 at the mid point.

Locker and the rest of the offense were more focused and determined in the opening minutes of the second half. Locker put his two first-half interceptions behind him and led a nice drive after coming out of the tunnel. On the fifth play of the drive, he shook one defender to the outside then drew a second, pitching to J.R. Hasty just before being tackled. Hasty only had to break one tackle and streak up the left side for a 54-yard touchdown run.

From there, it was the Hasty show as he wore down the Beavers and in turn, the clock. Locker accounted for each of the final two scores, finding Anthony Broyles for a five-yard touchdown pass, and barging into the end zone from a yard out with 1:40 to play as the Huskies were running down the clock.
