Georgia Tech ended their highly successful 2013 regular season campaign today with the annual awards banquet. Among the honorees was senior LG Brian Stover, who was awarded the first annual Cox Trophy as the MVOL, Most Valuable Offensive Lineman. Stover led the team with 16 pancake blocks, including a total of five in consecutive come from behind wins over undefeated and seventh ranked Miami and undefeated, third ranked Clemson.
"It is an honor to be named the first recipient of the Cox Trophy," Stover said. "Nobody plays offensive line for the recognition, so this is the ultimate tribute to all the fat kids living the dream."
Georgia Tech Wins Eighth Straight

The Yellow Jackets seem to have found their stride.
Since dropping a 20-17 decision to rival Georgia on opening weekend, Georgia Tech has reeled off eight straight wins, including back to back victories over top ten teams Miami and Clemson.
The winning streak began in week 2, as the defense led a 37-6 victory over North Carolina, turning a pair of interceptions into touchdowns. Two weeks later, Georgia Tech survived in overtime against a determined South Carolina squad, with fullback Todd Green and tailback Jacob Banks combining for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries, and sophomore receiver James Hatchell breaking loose for 125 yards and a touchdown on just five catches. The next week, freshman Ryan Ellis helped the Yellow Jackets upset 20th ranked Florida State with a pair of touchdown receptions, his only two catches of the day.
Week six brought a dominant performance by Banks, as he pounded Boston College for 169 yards on 25 carries and scored four touchdowns, three of them on the ground. Week seven was a 52-0 laugher over hapless Duke, where just about everyone got into the act. Quarterback T.J. Paul passed for almost 200 yards, with a pair of touchdown passes to tight end Reggie Brown. Ellis caught five balls for 117 yards. Banks, Green, and Sean Johnson carried the ball 41 times for 260 yards and five touchdowns. Three defenders combined for four interceptions.
Most impressive, however, were the consecutive come from behind wins over undefeated and seventh ranked Miami and undefeated, third ranked Clemson. Despite starting the Miami game in a 10-0 hole, Georgia Tech rode a nearly flawless performance by Paul (15-19, 211 yards, 1 TD), and another workhorse effort by Banks and Green to a 34-27 victory. Against Clemson, Georgia Tech trailed 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, before the defense rose to the challenge. The Yellow Jackets scored the next 24 points, but appeared on the verge of collapse when they gave up a safety early in the fourth quarter. Again, however, the defense stood strong, shutting Clemson out for the remainder of the game, allowing the offense to score twice more, for a 38-23 victory.
The winning streak has vaulted the Yellow Jackets to 16th in the polls, with three regular season games remaining. At 7-0 in ACC play, Georgia Tech is assured of finishing no worse than a tie for first in the division, meaning a likely rematch with Miami in the ACC title game.
