2007 Week 1

Louisville's new head coach,Moose Linville,blew his debut in the home season opener against #1 USC 20-17.Coach Linville had the Cardinals on the march in the redzone many times but made a few gutsy calls going for touchdowns instead of field goals.The Cardinals were stopped short on 4th & Goal early in the 4th quarter.Instead of the easy field goal,Coach Linville called for a George Strippling run up the middle and was denied on the goaline.USC took over on downs and managed to get in field goal range for the David Buehler 46 yard go ahead field goal.Louisville later marched another long drive into field goal range led by Jr. back up QB,Hunter Cantwell, but came up empty with a game ending interception caught by USC's SS Kevin Ellison.

Hunter Cantwell played most of the game after Sr. QB Brian Brohm was injured early in the first quarter on a sack.Jr.Wide Receiver Mario Urrutia suffered a game injury with a shoulder strain that will keep him sidelined for the next 2 weeks.Louisville's TE Gary Barnidge was also injured early in the first half that kept him on the sideline for the remainder of the game.

Sr.Wide Receiver,Harry Douglas kept the Cardinals' spirits alive breaking the school record for most receiving yards in a game with 269 yards.Coach Linville was impressed with his players' overall performance and still expects big things to happen throughout the remainder of the season."We have lost the first game to #1 in the Nation USC by 3 points.""That's my fault and I take full responsibility for not coaching conservative football when the game was on the line.""Still We have proven to everyone we can play with the best in the Nation and we will be more prepared for #2 Michigan next week."stated Coach Linville in a post game press conference.

Louisville dropped to #14 in the Polls and will host the #2 Michigan Wolverines in week 2.More news at a later date.
