Maryland Rolls, Calls Audible at QB
DURHAM, NC - Maryland didn't break much of a sweat in beating Duke, but the real story was the change at quarterback. After throwing three interceptions to allow Duke back into the game, QB Josh Portis was pulled in favor of Jeremy Ricker near the end of the first half. Portis never seemed to recover from his 6 INT debacle in a 40-7 loss to West Virginia. Ricker entered and responded with three 3rd quarter TD passes, all to Darrius Heyward-Bey. Heyward-Bey added a late punt return TD in the 4th quarter to bring his total for the day to four.
Both Wake Forest (at GT) and Florida State (vs. NCST) were upset, dropping them from a first place tie to a second place tie and propelling Maryland to 1st place in the ACC Atlantic Division.
