RALEIGH, NC - The special teams were awfully special alright. North Carolina State scored three touchdowns, but never converted an extra point in a 19-18 loss to Maryland. Maryland's big blow came with no time remaining on the clock in the first half. After a holding penalty had knocked them out of field goal range, quarterback Jeremy Ricker tossed one up towards his All-American target Darrius Heyward Bey, who was inexplicably single covered as he streaked towards the endzone. Heyward-Bey caught the ball and the Terps took a 13-12 lead into the break.

An 82 yard punt return midway through the third quarter gave NC State the lead, but a failed 2-point conversion left the score at 18-13 Wolfpack. Da'Rel Scott woke up from his sleep in the 4th quarter and took a hand-off down the right side for a 63 yard TD. The Terps missed their try at a two-pointer and NC State needed a FG to take the lead with 4:06 left to play. The Wolfpack promptly went 3 and out and punted the ball back to the Terps with just under three minutes to play. Maryland was unable to run out the clock, but did manage to land a punt out of bounds on the NC State 7 yard line with 1:09 to play. NC State was out of timeouts, having used them all to stall the Maryland drive.

Four straight completions found the Wolfpack on the Maryland 31 with 25 seconds left, but a holding call put them back to the 41, clock running. Wolfpack QB Beck was sacked on the next play and the clock expired just before he could get off one final snap. Terps win the Atlantic Division!!

Maryland will face #4 Virginia Tech for the ACC Title.
