Jefferson wins game for Tigers, 49-44 over Souther Miss

Wide Receiver Keron Jefferson's last game was an amazing performance that will have people talking for awhile. Down two scores in the fourth quarter, Jefferson returned two punts for touchdown on back-to-back punts. After which, quarterback Gordon Clark ran in a 18 yard touchdown to seal the deal and ensure a winning season for the Tigers under first year head coach Oliver Prudence.

The game was shoot out from the very beginning. The teams traded touchdowns throughout the first half, with two passing touchdowns from Alex Bonnett in the last two minutes of the half, thanks to a Kyle Williams fumble recovery. One of which was to Jefferson, who had 3 total touchdowns for the game.

In the third quarter, Southern Miss took a 10 point lead into the fourth quarter. This is when Jefferson took over. His first return at the 3:45 mark, was for 78 yards. He gave the team a four point lead with his second return just a minute later at the 3:26 mark. This one went for 66.

Southern Miss passed all over the Memphis defense, paying special attention on cornerback Tim Montgomery, who was responsible for four of the five Southern Miss passing touchdowns. However when the team finally had to make a stop, Junior cornerback Terrance Mullins, who replaced Montgomery in the middle of the fourth, jumped a route and intercepted the pass.

Both Bonnett and Clark threw two touchdown passes, while Clark had one rushing. Brandon Monroe was pulled as well out of fullback thanks to two fumbles that resulted in turnovers. Demetrius Casey came in at the fullback spot for the remainder of the game.
