Tigers Conquer Houston Bowl.
Keron Jefferson had another big game. 5 catches, 140 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Half back Desi Carey added 92 yards on 12 carries, and had 2 touchdowns as well. The Tigers outran San Jose State to control the clock, and the defense helped, causing 5 turnovers. San Jose State had 4 interceptions for the game.
The game started very close through the first half with Memphis leading at half 14-0. In the first quarter, the team ran the ball down the field, and freshman half back Demetrius Casey ran it in from 5 yards out. Keron Jefferson pitched in his first touchdown with 1:19 left, when he took a pass 45 yards for a touchdown.
In the second half, the defense created 4 of their 5 turnovers. Jefferson added a 37 yard touchdown reception in the third, along with a Carey 1 yard run, made it a 28-0 game.
San Jose State got on the board with a 41 yard touchdown pass. It didn't matter though, as Desi Carey added his second touchdown, and Alex Bonnett connected with Ryan Bowman with 49 seconds left in the game to complete the blowout. San Jose State's head coach would not shake hands with Coach Prudence at the end of the game, citing running the score up as a serious complaint.
Memphis ends the 2023 season, 8-5. Under head coach Oliver Prudence the team added 4 wins to last years' total. The team says goodbye to a number of valuable players, like receiver Keron Jefferson and linebacker Clint Washington, that graduate. Coach Prudence is excited about what the future holds for his Memphis Tiger football team.
