Still looking for that first win?

The Tigers' second possession lasted 6 minutes and ended in a touchdown. The offense had to grind out in some spots, but otherwise looked good running the ball and completing key passes. Quarterback Gordon Clark looked the part running for 15 yards and completing 4 of 5 passes in the drive including the 11 yard pass to tight end Steve Dennis for the touchdown. This was after the Tiger's ended Houston's first drive early when linebacker Clint Washington sacked the quarterback, forced a fumble, and recovered the ball. However, that was pretty much when the offense and defensive consistency left for the game. Houston would return a kickoff for the touchdown, and the offense would continue to drop passes or fumble, having 3 drops and 2 lost fumbles for the game. Gordon Clark left the game in the third quarter because of a broken finger thanks to a very harassing Cougar defense. Alex Bonnett finished the game and drove the team in mop-up time for a touchdown, completing a bit of a hail mary on a 4th and 4 to receiver Ryan Bowman. Meanwhile on defense, the Cougar offense did pretty much what it wanted, converting one touchdown on a 74 yard run for the cougars third touchdown to start the third quarter, and completing the last touchdown on a 43 yard pass to ice the game in the late third quarter.

Final Score: Houston 31, Memphis 21
Player of game: Clint Washington, 3 tkls, 1 tfl, 1 sack, 1 ff, 1 fr

"Needless to say, both sides of the ball have much work to do. The coaching staff is still sorting what the team can and can't do. The defense learned that they don't have the personnel to run a dime package basically. All three linebackers put in their work and came out with good performances. Offensively, you can see the positives in both the quarterbacks, both had moments where they seemed to get it this game. Gordon was putting together a hell of game when he got hurt. Most importantly, the lines will need to improve the the team will. It's that simple at this point."
