Michigan Steals One From MSU
The battle for the Paul Bunyan trophy got off to a heated start before the game even started. Players from both sides started pushing and shoving each other which resulted in a little brawl near midfield. After the players were seperated, it seemed MSU was the ones that lost their composure. The Spartans gift-wrapped the game to the Wolverines by committing 3 huge turnovers which led to 21 points. That was all the Wolverines would need. Thankfully so as the Wolverine offense was non-existent. Freshman sensation Sam McGuffie was swarmed anytime he touched the ball. He carried 21 times for a grand total of -2 yards. Yes -2. Michigan had golden opportunities to turn the game into a route but the offense failed miserable. Twice getting inside the MSU 40 after great field position and then couldn't do anything and were forced to punt. Coach RR summed it up by saying "We sucked out there offensively." Even with all the MSU miscues and a 24 point halftime lead, Michigan never seemed to have control of the game. MSU rallied in the second half by scoring two TD in the third quarter. With the lead 24-13(MSU for some reason went for two on their first TD), MSU was on the verge of scoring again until Senior CB Morgan Trent picked off his second pass of the game. Michigan then converted that drive into a TD. So the MSU turnovers resulted in 28 points. Michigan escapes MSU, but better pick up their game offensively as they face Purdue next week.
