Syracuse Handles Sloppy Illinois in Ugly Game
Syracuse and Illinios hooked up in a turnover fest game that saw the two teams combine for a whopping 11 total turnovers. Cuse somehow overcame 6 fumbles, including 3 by freshman HB Delone Carter on their way to a 47-26 win. Carter who finally cracked the 100 yard mark in his young collegiate career, was especially sloppy with the football which was a slight cause for concern. The youngster is at times dynamic running the ball, but if his fumbling problems continue, coach Robinson may have to sit him in favor of Chiara or Kareem Jones.
Syracuse despite the turnovers jumped out to a 30-6 halftime lead because Illini QB Brasic was just as generous with the ball, throwing 4 interceptions for the game. After QB Robinson hit WR Lobdell with a 11 yard TD pass to take a 7-0 lead, Brasic threw an interception to CB Quinton Brown who took it to the house for a quick 14-0 lead. CB Tanard Jackson would pick off another Brasic pass and returned it 38 yards for another Syracuse defensive TD.
The Illini scored 20 fourth quarter points to make the score somewhat respectable but the Orange were never threatned all game.
