The Syracuse entire offense should take MLB Kelvin Smith out to dinner for the rest of the week. Picking up an offense that was sputtering for the 2nd straight week, Smith had a fourth quarter only a kid playing in his backyard could come up with. Smith picked off Iowa QB Drew Tate 3 times in the game, with 2 coming in the last 5 minutes of the game to help Syracuse to an unbelievable win over the #16 Hawkeyes.

Before that remarkable fourth quarter Syracuse's offense looked horrible as both freshman QB Andrew Robinson and HB Delone Carter struggled mightily as Cuse trailed 13-0 at halftime. Looking to spark his lifeless team coach Robinson benched the two freshman and went with impact QB Perry Patterson and Paul Chiara at HB. "I wanted to give the team a chance," said Robinson of his decision to sit Robinson and Carter. "It wouldn't have been fair to the defense considering how great they were playing to stay with them two. It didn't immediately pay dividends though as Chiara fumbled the ball away and Patterson threw a endzone pick in the 4th. The offense did move slightly better with Patterson in though as they put 3 points on the board setting up Smith's superman heroics. After returning the two interceptiosn for TDs, Smith also recovered a fumble and took that to the house as well. Smith wind up scoring 3 times in the fourth. CB Tanard Jackson finished Tate off by picking him off for his 5th pick of the game.
