Wake Manhandles Sloppy Syracuse In Opener

If the entire season is going to go like this, then the Orange are going to be in for a long season. Committing four turnovers in a driving rain, 3 fumbles and an interception, Wake Forest dismantled Syracuse, 27-7. Despite their offense sputtering in the first half, thanks to a fumble from freshman halfback Delone Carter and a Robinso interception, Cuse only trailed 10-0 at the half. Wake's scoring came on a 10 yard run by impact HB Micah Andrews and a 25 yard field goal by Sam Swank.

Cuse received the ball to start the third quarter but Carter would put the rock on the ground again. It was scooped up by Wake's impact FS Josh Gattis and returned 38 yards for a score. Only because the sever weather conditions caused Wake to be sloppy as well did the Orange finally get on the board. Andrews would put the ball on the ground himself, and Cuse finally got on the board with a Robinson 10 yard TD run. Wake put the game away for good in the fourth on Andrews 2 yard run and Swank's 53 yard field goal. All told there were 8 turnovers between the two teams, each with 3 fumbles. Said Orange coach Greg Robinson, "I would like to think that the weather played a role in our subpar performance. But obviously that's a poor excuse, we have to play better next week against Iowa."
