Yale Wins, No Thanks to the Defense!

GAME NOTES:

Don't let the score of this game fool you, it was really closer than what the score reflects. We still need to figure out what we're doing wrong on defense because Columbia pretty much dominated our defense and we were lucky to come out of this with a win. Prior to this game Columbia was only scoring 5.5 points a game. They ended up putting 35 points on us today, nearly doubling their point total in the first 6 games combined. They were also ranked 116th in the nation with 189 yards per game. Today on our defense they throw for 456 yards and 5 TD's. At least our rushing defense stopped their rushing game although they only ran it a total of 9 times. We do have a bit of good news though. We finally stopped a team on their first possession making Columbia go three and out and having to punt, unfortunately on their next drive we gave up a 77 yard bomb for a TD.

Of offense we were able to run all we wanted. We ended the game with 324 yards, with HB Tony Campbell having the bulk of those yards with his 265 yards rushing. During the week we put in some different pass play for QB Kellen Tucker in hopes of being able to get a consistent passing game. Tucker did have a fairly solid performance going 9-15 with 129 yards and 2 TD passes. Although his performance was nowhere near what Columbia's QB did.

GAME BALLS:

A game ball goes to HB Tony Campbell for another solid rushing performance and overtaking the NCAA rushing lead. Much credit goes to our offensive line though.

MLB Ryan Wagner gets a game ball for his performance today. Ryan recorded 5 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 INT and a Pass Defl. Ryan was all over the field for us today.

OVERALL:

Overall we had another decent offensive game and we really don't have any problems there and it's a good thing that our offense is able to score and score a lot because our defense is absolutely terrible. Are our players just not playing that well or is it the coaches fault for not calling the right plays at the right time? We really need to get things straight cause who knows how long we can stay lucky like we've been.
