Yale Smashes the Panthers!

GAME NOTES:

Looks like that week off we had really paid off for us. After suffering that imbarrasing loss to East Carolina a couple of weeks ago, we came out strong against Prairie View A&M (0-5). Rushing wise we were able to do anything we wanted against the Panthers defense. HB Tony Campbell ran for 313 yards on only 16 carries and scored an astonishing 7 touchdowns! Our offensive line really came alive this week opening some big holes for Campbell who broke free for 5 runs over 20 yards (43, 48, 83, 31 and 30) all of which were touchdown runs. His 83 yard scamper was for a record breaking the previous record of 80. Campbell also return a fumble by QB Kellen Tucker on an option run for 21 yards and a score. Passing wise we didn't do much. QB Kellen Tucker didn't complete his first pass till the 3rd Quarter and only went 4 for 8 with a TD and 2 INT and 67 yards.

Our defense still hasn't figured out how to stop our opponents opening drives as we gave up a pass for a touchdown on the opening drive. But yet again the defense was able to regroup and pitch a shut out the rest of the way, till the 4th Quarter when we let them score again. That was mainly do to the fact that our defense spent most of the game on the field. The Panthers had the ball for 18:30 compared to our 9:30. It wasn't taking our offense very long to score when we had the ball. Our defense was able to find the Quarterback 9 times during the game for a sack which is by far the most sacks we've had this year. The guys were swarming all over the field today with our 9 sacks we also had five players with 5 or more tackles.

We were able to score another touchdown on our special teams. CB Cedric Smith returned a punt for 51 yards and a touchdown. That's the second time this year he's returned a punt for a score. He also had 62 yards on 2 kick returns and almost was able to run one of those back for a touchdown. The stats show that we gave up a ton of kick return yards, 224 yards but that is mainly because we kicked the ball off 11 times during the game.

GAME BALLS:

HB Tony Campbell gets a game ball for his 313 yards rushing and the amazing 7 TD's in this game. Why Tony hasn't shown up on any Heisman talk is beyond us.

Josh Pugh gets a game ball on defense with his game high and season high 8 tackles. He also got 2 of our 9 sacks and forced a fumble.

OVERALL:

Overall we looked pretty solid throughout the game. There's really nothing to complain about with our performance with the exception that we've given up a TD pass on every opening drive this year. We really need to figure out what we can do to stop this. This game marks the end of our non-conference schedule. With the exception of the game against East Carolina we've looked pretty solid this year. Now we just need to stay focused and play hard during our tough Big East Conference schedule.
