Bulldogs Pitch a Shut Out!

GAME NOTES:

What a way for us to debut that new #21 ranking. There was some talk earlier in the week that we didn't deserve to be in the top 25 even with our record, so we wanted to come out and prove to people that we belong up there. The only real problem is that Cornell hasn't won a game all year and frankly just isn't a very good team.

Once again we were able to rush for over 300 yards. HB Tony Campbell only rushed for 126 yards because we took him, as well as QB Kellen Tucker out at halftime since we were up 35-0. HB Josh Jackson had a great game filling in for Campbell with his 121 yards on only just 6 carries and score 3 TD's. Before Tucker was taken out he threw for 114 yards and 2 TD's and his backup QB Chase Coleman did a fine job filling in for him.

All I can say about our defensive performance is...WOW. I really hope that this was a sign that our defense is finally working and just not that Cornell is a really bad team. We were able to keep our opponent from scoring on their first possession for the first time this year, even though we did give up a big pass play. Cornell was on the verge of scoring when FS Jabari Campbell came up with a huge interception in the end zone. We were then able to pitch a complete shut out the rest of the game and picked off Cornell's QB a total of 5 times and sacked him 6 times. Our defense was really clicking on every level. The defensive line was able to get good pressure on the QB and the secondary was covering well. We held them to only 98 yards passing. Our season average for passing yards allowed going into the game was 249, near the worst in the nation. We shut down their running attack and with all the sacks we held them to -18 yards rushing.

On special teams we only got to return one kick off but boy was it a dozy! WR Clayton Roth took it 79 yards for a TD, our first kick off return for a TD this year. We did give up 249 yards of kick off return yards, but we did kick the ball off 12 times.

GAME BALLS:

The whole team deserves a game ball for their performance in this game. Lets just hope we can continue what we were doing on defense next week, cause we're facing a good Brown Bears (7-2) team.

OVERALL:

Overall we played well in every area and were clicking on all cylinders on offense, defense and special teams. We took care of the ball and didn't turn it over all the game. The first time in a while we haven't turn the ball over. And we also forced 5 turnovers with our 5 interceptions.
