Yale Gets Dominated!
GAME NOTES:
Well, we came into this game thinking it would be a pretty rough game for us, but we at least thought we could keep the game closer than this. The #5 ranked East Carolina Pirates (4-0) just dominated us plain and simple, from offense to defense to special teams. We couldn't get our running game off the ground so we had to rely on our passing game which is something we're not really built for. It didn't help any when our leading receiver, TE Bernard Robinson went down at the beginning of the 2nd Quarter with back spasms and was out for the rest of the game. Some how we were able to out pass ECU 249 to 160. We had to change our QB in the third after our starter Kellen Tucker threw his fourth interception. Chase Coleman came in and did a fairly decent job leading us to our only score late in the 4th Quarter.
For the fourth straight game our defense let the opposition march down the field on their first possession and throw for a touchdown. After that our defense settled down again and held the ECU offense to only 160 yards passing and 87 yards rushing for the game. We were able to hold them to four field goals after that first touchdown.
Unfortunately all ECU's touchdowns came when our defense wasn't even on the field. They intercepted Kellen Tucker four times and two of those they ran back for touchdowns. Right after those two scores they ran back a punt for 37 yards and a touchdown and then late in the 4th Quarter they ran back a 94 yard kick off for a touchdown.
GAME BALLS:
Uhh...game balls? I really don't know who should get a game ball after that pitiful performance. I guess offensively a game ball can go to HB Tony Campbell, although he was only able to rush for 45 yards he stepped it up when TE Bernard Robinson went down and caught 8 passes for 109 yards and scored our only touchdown.
The game balls for defense can go to OLB Rodney Bush and CB Mike Townes for leading the team with 6 tackles a piece.
OVERALL:
Overall we learned that we're not as good as we thought we were. We have so many things to work on that I really don't know where to start. We're going to have a long couple of weeks of practice coming up since we're off next weekend. Let's hope we can regroup and come out strong when we go down and visit Prairie View A&M in a couple of weeks.
