All Quiet in Week 6

Good Start, But...

This game started out very fun, and it's my favorite so far. We gave a true D1-A team all they could handle for a long time. And the game progressed as I think it should have: ULM took a while to figure out our defense, then continued adapting to it very well.

The game started with a sack by DT#79 Lacefield (80 ovr), our best player on defense, who is unfortunately a senior. An overthrown but wide open deep route incompletion was followed by another Lacefield sack. UAPB then drove to the ULM 18 but missed a field goal that hooked right. On the next possession however QB Lovelady finds WR Matthews, our two impact players hooking up, for a 41 yard playaction TD bomb and a 7-0 lead.

ULM then started figuring out our 4-2-5 cover 3 zone with completions to the sidelines. They also began exposing the softness of our front four. Eventually our team speed killed us, just like last week. ULM scored on punt returns, long passes, short passes that outran the defense, and sweeps that got to the edge.

But I enjoyed coach moding this one. It was coach mode almost all the way this time. Lovelady was better than his stats revealed. He had a lot of dropped passes and throws where the receiver didn't make an effort to get the ball.
