The Palmetto Bowl: Tigers>Gamecocks
Clemson had a bye week headed into the annual Clemson Carolina game. The gamecocks just got done dismantling Mid Tenn State. The tigers were happy to here that Boston College lost to miami and opened up a spot for the Tigers in Jacksonville. So there was hardly any pressure headed into this week because there was atleast 2 chances the Tigers would make a BCS bowl game.
The first quarter was full of fireworks as clemson just could not get its offense going. Everytime the got into the redzone HB James Davis would fumble the ball(2times in the 1rst) Which led to two gamecock scores. The tigers returned the favor by getting 3 straight fumble recovers that lead to scores. It was started when Anthony Waters picked up a fumble and returned it 45 yards for the touchdown. The next two recoveries, the drives lead to 2 touchdowns by star widereciever Chansi Stuckey. The first score on a 16 yard post pattern. The 3rd was a 9 yard td screen to stuckey. That screen touchdown set the new clemson single season record for touchdowns with 9(which he later added to). At the end of the 1rsQ it was 21-17. But from that point on it was all tigers except a 72 yard cory boyd run late in the 4thQ. Other notables is that DE Phillip Merling broke the Clemson season sack record of 16 sacks.
