Wildcats fall to #23 Cornhuskers 49-22

Game Notes


  • The 49 points scored by Nebraska were the most scored by a Huskers team against KSU since the #3 ranked Huskers trounced the Wildcats 56-26 in Lincoln 10/4/97.

  • This was the first game K-State allowed over 40 points since Iowa State put up 45 in a 45-17 win in Ames 11/5/05. It was also the most points scored by a K-State opponent since Texas tech's 59-20 win in Lubbock 10/15/05.

  • K-State allowed five sacks and committed five turnovers, each are season highs.

  • K-State set a season-high with 217 passing yards and a season-low with 20 rushing yards. It was the fifth time in the past 15 games the Wildcats have been held under 40 yards rushing.

  • Senior tailback Thomas Clayton was held under 100 yards for only the second time this season.

  • Clayton needs only three yards to becaome the seventh player in KSU history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. It would also be only the ninth time it had been done by a Wildcats player.

  • Clayton currently has 997 yards rushing on 124 carries in seven games. The school record for fastest player to 1,000 yards rushing is Darren Sproles in 159 carries (2002) and nine games (2004).

  • Freshman quarterback Josh Freeman had his worst outing of the season completing 18-of-35 pass attempts (51%) for 221 yards, one touchdown, four interceptions and two fumbles.

  • Freeman's 18 complettions, 35 attempts, 221 yards, four interceptions, two fumbles and six turnovers are all season-highs. Freeman had only thrown two interceptions and fumbled three times coming into the game.

  • Senior receiver Jordy Nelson was another player who did not play well against the hated Cornhuskers. Nelson did manage five receptions for 80 yards but was credited with a season-high two drops and could have been docked for two others.

  • Sophomore defensive end Ian Campbell recorded a sack for the fourth straight game, giving him a team-high seven on the season. His seven sacks are second in the Big 12 and tied for third nationally.

  • Junior safety Marcus Watts had a Wildcats' season-high four passes defensed. He leads the team with seven on the season.

  • Senior linebacker Brandon Archer recovered a fumble and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown, his second of the season. Junior cornerback Justin McKinney also contributed a defensive touchdown with a 58-yard interception return.

  • Senior placekicker Jeff Snodgrass kicked a field goal (27 yards) for the third straight game after not attempting a field goal try in the first four games.

  • Taking away his 64-yard return for a touchdown against Illinois St,, senior returner Yamon Figurs is averaging only five yards per punt return this season.

  • Junior cornerback Byron Garvin left the game in the first half with a hip pointer and did not return. He is expected to miss two weeks.

  • Senior linebacker and defensive captain Zach Diles left the game in the first quarter with a bruised shoulder and did not return. He is expected to be back in the lineup next week.
