Spartans Wake Up Late Against Huskies
Leading just 14-12 at the end of three quarters, Dr. P was miffed at how Connecticut was controlling the game. So, he did what any smart coach would do, and gave the ball to HB A.J. Jimmerson.
Jimmerson scored two of his three rushing touchdowns in the 4th quarter, running for 123 yards on 21 carries in the 28-12 win over Connecticut.
It was a game that statistically UConn dominated. They had the ball for 16 minutes while the Spartans had it for just 12. They finished with 50 yards more of offense. Their QB threw for 272 yards on 27 of 36 passing.
"I guess we're jet lagged from that trip out to Cali, but we certainly didn't play our best ball today. The defense looked a little tired, but the main thing is that we got down to business in the fourth and put the game away. A win is a win," stated Dr. P.
While Jimmerson has been tremendous in his first two games, a lot of Spartan fans can't help but notice the play of freshman SS George Colbert. He recorded 7 more tackles tonight and had his first two sacks.
"He's amazing. He always wants to be around the ball, and if his tackling improves watch out. The way EA sluts secondary players, we could be looking at a 3 or 4 time All-American," Dr. P noted.
An interesting note, the single game tackle record in this dynasty was broken by two MSU players today. FS Dan Fortener and CB David Williams each had 14 tackles, which says a lot about the bad play on defense today. Fortener also added an interception to seal the game on UConn's final drive.
QB Connor Dixon also had his second straight solid game. He finished 12 of 15 for 169 yards, a 42 yard touchdown pass to WR T.J Williams, and an interception. He has completed 75% of his passes thus far.
