Nail Biter
Richmond survived a nail biter of a game tonight as Buck Roberts had his worst game in Spider Blue. Roberts (B-Rob) attempted 26 passes as Richmond tried to establish a balanced attack, but he completed only 8 to his own teammates. Another 4 went to Paladins, 2 of which were returned for Furman scores. He was sacked 5 times and his receivers dropped 5 catches. Two completions made up 80% of his yardage total: an 81 yarder to Stephens behind the safety, and a 55 yarder to Brinkley, also behind the coverage. But he SCRAMBLED for positive yardage, right up the middle, a first in dynasty history.
The 2-5 Paladins made it clear they were serious from their first defensive series. Veteran Spider safety Tim Muhammed was beaten deep early in the game, chasing Richmond out of the cover 2 zone defense and forcing the Spiders to play man-to-man. This change freed up the running game for IP RB Mike Adkins who ran for over 100 yards. Furman's only other two scores were interception returns. It was a defensive ballgame throughout, and only Robbie Swoopes' 65 yard punt return late in the game sealed the win.
Hero of the game for the Spiders was Clifton Shelton, whose 4-of-4 field goal kickery kept Richmond in the game.
