Basketball on grass
Troy state opened up the game with a 21-14 lead. Thanks to a cruicial muffed punt by McIntosh to set up the touchdown at the 1 yard line.
To start off the second half Tennessee had designed a great pass play. The play was to leave Lowe wide open and have him race to the endzone. It was a beautiful 54 yard touchdown strike. Later on in the second half, Mitchell connected to McNeal for a nice 11 yard touchdown strike. Mitchell showed great poise in the two minute offense as he hit Day for a 7 yard pass right before half time.
Starting off the third quarter would be Troy's undoing. McNeal took the opening kickoff to the house after avoiding the entire Troy special teams unit in the process. Clearly flustered by that, Troy got the ball back and proceeded to move backwards and let Tennessee get a safety on a third down. Tennessee went into mercy mode in the fourth quarter and tried to run out the clock to start the year off 1-0 before #5 Florida comes to visit. Troy had a furious 19 point fourth quarter rally but Tennessee managed to run out the clock and win 50-40.
"The plays I called today were on the money, the execution was flawless. I would like to thank Coach Batten for letting me have full control over the offense. I think I will have a little something ready for Florida, but we will see." Said Offensive Coordinator David Minton
