A sunny day in Pasadena, California meant it was a great day to play football. Tennessee came in to face a UCLA team that had won three games in a row. Tennessee was coming off a 45-24 loss to #4 Florida.
UCLA clearly had the guns on offense to make it a usual Pac-10 offensive battle, but Tennessee's defense showed up. Time and time again Tennessee's defense got pressure on UCLA QB A.J. Weaver. The Vols did not really blitz at all, the D-Line pushed back the UCLA Offensive line pretty bad and got to Weaver a bunch.
Justin Smith had another Heisman like day rushing for 196 yards. Mark Mitchell struggled mightly against UCLA's senior led secondary. New York badass, Thomas McIntosh improved his punt returning ability and took a punt back to the house.
"The defense is clearly the story of the day. I am very proud of Mark Odom he had a career day and that forced fumble for a touchdown clearly was the reason we won today. The defense played like the Tennessee defense's of old, almost getting that shutout was a little dissappointing, but I'll take this win." said Coach Batten.
