BAYLOR WINS BIG & EASY IN LOUISIANA
Despite what the scoreboard & stats might indicate, Baylor kicked off the 2008 season with a complete beatdown victory over UL Lafayette. The offense looks deadlier than last year. QB Guy Wright is even more accurate & precise passing the ball to a variety of talented receivers & the rebuilt O-line kept him virtually clean all day. Running behind the newer, bigger line is a 4-pronged attack at RB, led by Ronnie "Farooq" Simmons, nicknamed after a famous wrestler.
The defense didn't have it's best day, but admittedly, alot of that was Coach Juggs' doing. "We didn't have much of a pass rush last year, especially from the front 4. So today, we opened the playbook and tried literally, every blitz we had in the book. Some of it we liked, alot of it we didn't and it led the Cajuns to put up some points and yards. But when we had to buckle down, we went back to the basics and familiar play calls and when we did, we played well."
The Bears will stay in the South next week as they travel to Ole Miss for the 2nd game in a home & home series, winning last year in Waco. Then they return home for their home opener vs. UTEP. Coach Juggs is confident that the Bears can win all 3 and head into Big 12 play undefeated and primed for a run at the Top 25.
