2008 Week 6

On The Schedule: Missouri W 28-16

All Quiet in Week 6

Weekly Report Posted: May 11, 2024 05:47

No news has been reported this week.

PRETTY - NO, STILL UNDEFEATED - YES

The Bears moved to 5-0 after a hard fought, and often times ugly, win over a very tough Missouri team. Baylor's offense was hardly it's usual Top 10 self. The O-line, for the first time this year, got abused & gave up 5 sacks & many more hurries. The pressure directly related to 1 of Guy Wright's 2 interceptions, doubling his season total on a slightly off day for him. But when 1 side of the ball fails, the other side needs to step up.
After Mizzou took a 10-7 lead late in the 2nd, Coach Juggs made a change in defensive philosophy. Up until that point, the Tigers & star QB Chase Daniel, were confusing Baylor's young defense. Multiple 4 & 5 wide sets, weird option runs & play action passes & when all else failed, the legs of QB Daniel outrunning our D-line. Coach went to the 3-2 dime for the rest of the game and either stuck in Cover 2 or Double LB spy with zone behind it. This kept our 2 most talented players (LBs Davis & Burton) on the field & around the line at all times. They stopped Daniels' scramble runs, flew to the ball on the option running game & the 6 DB zone coverage behind them really limited any deep passing attack. The result was a half of shutout football until Missouri added a late & meaningless TD.
Now at 5-0 & 2-0 in the Big 12, Baylor could be looking at a special season. The rest of the schedule gets no easier though, but so far, the Bears have meet and conquered every challenge.
