BAYLOR DEFENDS HOME TURF

In what will go down as one of our most impressive wins of the season, the defense was the driving force today. The 2nd team defense gave up some late yards & a TD, otherwise the already impressive stat line would have been stellar. In the end, we allowed only 14 points on 10 1st downs. Gave up barely over 250 yards & only 100 thru the air while holding Iowa St under 40% completion. RB Jason Harris finished with 200+ yds, but about 120 of those came on 1 early TD run & 1 late run vs. the backups. We recorded a season best 8 sacks, with DE Greg Murphy breaking the school record with 4 in a game. We held the Cyclones to 36% on 3rd down and 0 for 2 in the redzone. Forced 4 fumbles, recovering 3 & 3 picks for a total of 6 turnovers, including 1 pick 6 for a TD by CB Hayes. In short, complete domination.
On offense, for the most part things went well. But we have developed 2 very disturbing trends. We allowed 5 more sacks & fumbled 4 more times, raising our NCAA worst in totals in each. Coach Juggs is big on mistake free football, so despite the lopsided win & 6-1 start to the season, his yells could be heard from the locker room before the media was let in. When they were, a fuming Coach said, "This $hit HAS to stop, immediately! It's a team-wide plague, and I can't sit the entire team. But I can make them practice to exhaustion tomorrow", before storming off to his office.
