IT WAS A DONE DEAL WHEN...
D.J. McPhearson caught a pass on the sideline and fumbled it away late in the 4th. They ran back the fumble for a touchdown and the 35-21 lead. If we scored on that drive, it's a tie game and we've got the momentum. But we blew it.
GAME BALLS
Chris Jenkins had another solid day catching the ball, going for 111 yards and a touchdown on 6 catches. ... Freshman ILB Kyle Smith picked up 7 tackles (4 for a loss) and a sack as he had a nice individual performance against Navy's rushing attack.
KEY STATISTICS
For the second week in a row, spotty redzone performance ended up being the difference. We went inside the twenty 5 times and came away with 3 TDs and no field goals. So we went in twice and came up with nothing. That's got to change.
NOTES
Freshman HB Melvin Hawkins had his first career 100 yard rushing game thanks to a 72 yard burst. ... HB Claude Slaughter dropped 3 passes, including two on consecutive plays at one point. He needs to work on those hands. ... QB John Powell needs to protect the ball better. He's got as many interceptions as touchdowns so far through two games this year.
